More Low-Prep Activity Ideas For When Plans Have to Pivot

Every so often, I like to post a list of some low-prep activity ideas that can be easily integrated into a high-quality session alongside a community builder and reflection. This is especially helpful during the winter months, when we may need to quickly pivot based on weather and youth energy levels.

Here are some activities that require little set-up, supplies likely already on your shelf, and will be fun!

I really love having a back pocket full of game variations, and have posted lists of ideas using dice and cards. Here’s another simple dice game that is fast moving and introduces strategic thinking.

This little woven basket tutorial only needs felt sheets, a hot glue gun, and scissors. It might be a better fit for older elementary or tweens, and could make cute gifts for youth to make for their families.

This whole list only requires pen and paper! It could be a fun way to do centers, with instructions for a new game at each one, and youth rotating through several games.

Shamelessly promoting my own blog post here, because weather permitting, outside may not be an option. This round-up of active games is a good fit for school sites or others that don’t have access to a gym.

If you’ve got LEGO, this DIY marble maze is another idea that promotes strategic thinking. And guess what- we have a whole blog just with more LEGO ideas!

I can see this post-it note game for teens or tweens getting real goofy real fast lol.
