Here are some Winter STEAM activities to keep those brains working that would work in the afterschool context.

The full written plans for this Sled and Slope challenge are for purchase, but there’s a free video in the post that walks through the whole thing.

Pair this hands-on activity with discussion of geometric shapes and pictures of actual snowflakes under microscopes.

For older youth, this borax version is more advanced.

Speaking of snowflakes, here are two pretty art activities that also involve geometry and patterns.

Pair this Folk Art trees activity with a discussion of what Folk Art is and the art culture and history of your local community.

Be sure to have a bunch of red and white beads on hand for this!
