Last month, BGCA debuted the Promising Practices for Managing Club Staff bulletin series right here on the Club Experience Blog! Be sure and go back and read that first post, not just to get the hiring and onboarding bulletin, but also to find out a bit more about the development of the series. Today I am excited to share the second installment, focused on facilitating staff communication.
And because I absolutely cannot think about this topic without also thinking of The Office, let’s just get the obligatory clip out of the way immediately thankyouandyou’rewelcome.
As we researched what made the best managers the most effective, a theme that came up over and over and over was communication, both through regular, effective staff meetings and through collaboration and team building. We then went to the data, finding Boys & Girls Clubs across the country who scored highly both on their NYOI Club Experience indicators and their Staff Survey responses. Through many many hours of interviews, we discovered some incredible practices that we knew we had to share.
In this bulletin, you’ll find tips for holding effective staff meetings and a sample agenda, the importance of collaborative problem solving and team building, and lots of ideas directly from Clubs. You’ll hear from Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera County, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. So much good stuff!
You can download the full PDF version of the bulletin by clicking the photo above or this link: Promising Practices for Staff Management Issue 2: Facilitating Staff Communication. If you are a Boys & Girls Club staff, you can also find bulletins 1 and 2 on BGCA.net, along with some other great resources, including the What Works for Building a Great Club Experience report, a webinar series on Club Experience Promising Practices, as well as our Data Use Series. Find it all on the Effective Data Use page under the Operations tab.
At BGCA we are committed to helping our Club Directors and all those who manage staff reach their full potential, so that their staff can do the same, so that ultimately their Club members can achieve Great Futures. When the next bulletin in the Promising Practices series is released, along with any other resources for Club managers, we will be sure to let you know here. Subscribe to the ClubX Blog at the bottom of the page so you don’t miss anything!
