If you’ve spent more than five minutes around tweens lately, you’ve probably heard someone say “six seven” like it’s the most obvious (and most hilarious) thing in the world. Spoiler: it’s not. But that hasn’t stopped it from taking over group chats, hallway banter, and probably your Club.
Instead of fighting it (or pretending you understand it), why not join the fun? We pulled together a list of 6 7-inspired activities that turn this mysterious meme moment into creative games, art projects, and brain breaks your youth will love — no cultural fluency required.
First, an explainer. This teacher regularly posts tween/teen slang videos on Tiktok and Instagram, and this set of slang posters he sells on Teachers Pay Teachers is so fun.
If you work with tweens or young teens, this set of free writing prompts could be fun. To make it less intimidating, you could have youth work in groups of two or three.
This math activity is for grades 3rd-5th and is pretty cheap, but you could also recreate it by making sure you use appropriate grade-level questions.
Another very simple idea if you aren’t using it already is to use 6-7 as an attention getter!
They may not be together, but these two dice games do have 6 and 7 in the titles (yes it’s a reach but IT IS WHERE WE ARE)
And finally, this list of quick ideas incorporates 67 into activities you may have already done. We love a theme!
1. Six-Seven Shuffle (Dance-Off)
Play a random playlist and tell youth to create a “67” dance move on the spot. It can be anything — two steps, six poses, seven claps — whatever “feels right.” Bonus points if they name their move something dramatic like The Eternal 67.
2. 67-Second Challenges
Give youth a random task to complete in exactly 67 seconds — like stacking cups, writing compliments, or doing jumping jacks. Set a timer and go rapid-fire. Bonus: use it as a warm-up or transition activity. You could also turn this into a mini field day with a series of events, like tossing a ball 67 times without dropping it or running a 67-second relay.
3. Build the Mystery
Grab art supplies and ask youth to “illustrate the true origin of 67.” You’ll get comic strips, conspiracy boards, and maybe a new wall decoration that makes no sense — in the best way. Or an art variation that doesn’t incorporate the meaning: Give youth 6 minutes and 7 seconds to create art based on a prompt (like “energy,” “community,” or “the future”). Then host a mini gallery walk and let everyone share.
4. Countdown Chaos
Make up a game that only counts from six to seven. Like, tag where you can only run for six seconds, freeze for seven, repeat. It makes zero sense — and that’s the point.
5. Trend Translator
Have youth pick a random viral trend and translate it into an afterschool-friendly activity (like “if 67 were a service project…”). The results might surprise you — or at least make you laugh.
6. The 67 Playlist
Challenge youth to make a shared playlist of 6 songs that pump them up and 7 that help them relax. Use it during free choice or homework time. Social-emotional twist + youth voice.
7. 89?
Finally, to get creativity flowing, try this activity for creating the next viral trend. Here are instructions:
Goal: Channel youth creativity and humor into inventing a totally new “trend” — one that could theoretically go viral.
Setup:
- Small groups or pairs
- Paper, markers, or access to phones/tablets for mock videos
- Optional: a “Trend Board” or whiteboard to collect all ideas
How it works:
- Start with a mystery: Ask, “Why do some things blow up online while others don’t?” Let youth share their favorite trends or weird moments that “everyone” knew about.
- Brainstorm time: Each group invents a brand-new trend. It can be a dance, sound, challenge, random phrase, hand motion — whatever. The only rule: it has to mean nothing and be totally committed to the bit.
- Name it: Every trend needs a name (bonus points for numbers, punctuation, or misspellings).
- Demonstrate it: Each group presents their new trend as if it’s already gone viral. They can film a “tutorial,” make a fake news interview, or perform it live.
- Vote: The group votes on categories like:
- Most likely to go viral
- Funniest trend
- Least likely to ever make sense
- The “Next 67” Award
Debrief: Ask
- What made your trend stand out?
- Why do you think people love random, silly trends?
- How can we use trends in positive ways (connection, laughter, creativity)?
At the end of the day, you don’t have to understand every trend to use it. Sometimes the best afterschool magic happens when you just say, “Sure, why not?” and roll with the energy your youth bring through the door. So whether 67 is a number, a vibe, or a full-on mystery, we say: lean in, have fun, and let the chaos do its job — building connection, creativity, and laughter.
Because if afterschool has taught us anything, it’s this: you don’t have to get it to get it right.
