My social media algorithms are wild these days. They serve up new books I need to read, Irish travel tips, and Diet Coke memes. All my favorite things! I also see a TON of great ideas from youth development programs and classrooms with projects, practice tips, and fun games. I’ve been saving them and today I’m bringing you my favorites from Instagram and Tiktok specifically around team-building, collaboration, and working together. If you’re looking for fresh ways to engage, build community, or just get some inspiration, you’re in the right place!
This maze activity that requires working together would probably work best for teens.
For younger youth, this collaborative art activity is a great idea, and I love how the teacher who posted it mentioned that its a way to build a culture of “enjoying each other and being able to make mistakes/laugh at yourself.”
This creative activity where small groups create their own game could end up being the bulk of a program session.
This activity would work for a wide variety of ages, and only needs index cards! The focus on finding commonalities would be particularly good for new groups.
Here’s another that requires supplies you already have and some creativity.
My team actually did something similar, but with instructions to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And we were able to talk. I really like how she talks through how she facilitates it and highlights the teamwork lesson.
This Art teacher put together this collaborative art show based around ocean creatures. You could totally turn this into a cross-Club effort too, with educational activities about bioluminescence. I like that each grade made their own creature so there is some variation, while all fitting the theme. This could also double as a parent event! The same teacher also did a great collaborative quilt mural.
And this music rating activity is just plumb fun lol. “…it feels like someone would listen to it at a sleepover in the 90s.” LOLOL
